West Allotment Community Centre is a registered charity ran entirely by volunteers. It was setup in 1963 by a group of local people who wished to establish a boys club.
The running of the centre was took over by Kelly & Stephen Wood with a group of new trustees & volunteers in April 2015 when it was changed to West Allotment Community Centre. Our main ambition was to get the centre refurbished as it was in a poor state & to get the community using the facilities more.
Since taking over the community centre we have managed to secure arround £40,000 from The Big Lottery Fund, Sita - Foyer Foundation, Community Foundation, Asda Foundation, Schofield Trust & RW Mann Trust. With this funding we have managed to carry out a full refurbishment of the building. (see photo gallery)
We currently have a number of different groups using the centre which is also available for hire for parties, meetings & events etc.
A local charity in Newcastle upon Tyne has received a generous donation of £9,500 from the Asda Foundation, which will help to complete the centre’s electrical works.
